Feeding of screw caps & cannulas for final packaging

In our success story, we combine our two core technologies, centrifugal sorting units and vibration technology, in one project. For the final packaging of several formats of cannulas and screw caps in the field of dentistry, two systems are used to feed products into the packaging process in the smallest possible space.

The Machine

  • Three formats (violet, yellow & green)
  • Six and eight-item provision for pick & place process
  • Minimal number of format parts
  • Complete integration into the customer's machine protection system
  • Systems according to UL specifications for the American market

Feeding of cannulas

  • Two centrifugal sorting units with switch systems
  • Horizontal provision of cannulas
  • Output: 200 pieces / minute

Feeding of screw caps

  • Two sorting bowls
  • Output: 200 pieces / minute

The Task:

In a toploading process, 200 cannulas and screw caps are required for packaging in a blister pack. Different product colors as well as different configurations of multi-lane provision with low set-up effort are to be implemented. These requirements form the framework of this success story.

The Challenge:

Complex mechanical interfaces and a demanding hall layout tested the creativity and expertise of our developers to find a tailor-made solution with optimum ergonomics, accessibility and performance.

The Solution:

An intensive exchange in the iterative development process with the customer made it possible to work together to design the complex interface and master the challenges of accessibility and ergonomics.

A smart design and sophisticated control of the two systems enabled us to map all six format combinations using just two format parts that can be changed without tools.

The Result

The final solution comprises two systems, each with two feeds. Two ergonomic hoppers are used for each system to ensure sufficient autonomy. In order to maintain accessibility despite challenging circumstances, the systems were fully integrated into the machine protection of the blister machine.

Both the centrifugal sorting units and the sorting bowls achieved the required output of 200 items per minute on both six and eight lanes.

This success story is the result of a well thought-out concept, innovative technologies and close cooperation with our customer.
