For an international customer, we developed a customized centrifugal sorting system for the automated singulation and sorting of backstops for syringe assembly. The combination of a demanding throughput requirement of more than 500 parts per minute, limited installation space within an existing production facility, and an ambitious delivery schedule posed significant challenges throughout the project.
Thanks to a well-engineered machine concept, efficient internal processes, and E+K's high level of vertical integration, a high-performance solution was successfully realized and delivered on schedule. The system combines maximum throughput, process reliability, and format flexibility within a compact footprint tailored to the customer's production environment.


A customer required a high-performance sorting solution for the automated feeding of backstops into a downstream manufacturing process. The system needed to combine high throughput rates with reliable and repeatable part handling while accommodating different product formats.
In addition to the demanding performance requirements, the machine had to be integrated into an existing production hall. The available installation space and surrounding infrastructure were already defined, making efficient use of the available footprint a key project requirement.


One of the main challenges was integrating the system into an existing production environment with limited space. The machine concept had to fit the existing hall layout while ensuring accessibility, maintainability, and ergonomic operation.
Another key challenge was achieving a throughput of over 500 backstops per minute, requiring a highly optimized feeding, sorting, and handling concept for stable continuous operation.
In addition, the system had to process different product formats with consistent sorting quality and minimal setup effort. The combination of high throughput, format flexibility, limited installation space, and a very short delivery schedule significantly increased project complexity and required close cross-disciplinary coordination.


E+K developed a customized centrifugal sorting system with two high-performance centrifugal feeders mounted on a common base frame. The compact design ensured optimal use of the available floor space and seamless integration into the customer's existing production environment.
From the beginning, the system was engineered to achieve the required throughput rates while maintaining maximum process stability. The sorting and handling components were designed to accommodate different backstop geometries and ensure a continuous, controlled product flow.
A key success factor was E+K's high level of vertical integration. Engineering, manufacturing, assembly, and commissioning were performed largely in-house, enabling short communication paths, rapid decision-making, and maximum flexibility. Combined with efficient internal workflows, this ensured the demanding delivery schedule was met without compromising quality or performance.
The result is a compact and highly efficient centrifugal sorting system capable of processing more than 500 backstops per minute. Equipped with two centrifugal feeders on a shared base frame, the machine delivers reliable singulation and orientation performance while maintaining excellent process stability.
Its space-optimized design enabled integration into an existing production facility without extensive modifications to the surrounding infrastructure. The system also provides the flexibility required to process multiple product formats while ensuring consistent sorting quality and high machine availability.
The project demonstrates E+K's ability to deliver customized automation and sorting solutions that combine high throughput, engineering precision, and short implementation times.
